Revealed : Conte's Football Principle
The Chelsea Boss was happy with the team's performance at the weekend but believes a lot more work must be done if his team will be able to compete with English football's heavyweights.
Conte's football principles are hinged on the team being compact and pressing high up the pitch both when in attack or defending.
While at Juventus he cloned the 3-5-2 after the Italian giants finished 7th the season before conceding a lot of goals. The system deployed full wing backs who are tasked with running up and down the pitch in offensive and defensive situations.
The manager said at his unveiling that his team will be built with the talent and abilities of the squad at his disposal. When quizzed following David Luiz's acquisition on whether he will adopt the 3-5-2 system at Chelsea,Conte said that it would definitely not work with the Chelsea squad.Regulars Eden Hazard and Willian will likely be consigned to the bench which could lead to lack of creativity high up the pitch which could also desert Diego Costa. The Italian however suggested that a 3-4-3 would be a likely alternative.
He was probably forced to work on implementing the system in matches when the blues conceded 9 times in only 4 games.
Lo! the system was introduced in the game at the KC Stadium. Our first victory in four league games accompanied by a first clean sheet away from the Bridge were just evidences of how efficient this new setup can be.Aside from the shaky few minutes early in the game, the blues showed great resilience both in attack and defence.Victor Moses flourished in his new role while Marcos Alonso did the same on the opposite flank. There was also a more assured defending from the back-line of Cesar Azplicueta,David Luiz and Gary Cahill. Eden Hazard and Willian were given the free role of creating chances for in-form striker Diego Costa. Matic and Kante played as a midfield duo, with Kante playing in a more box to box role.
The team was all over the pitch and this was vital as Conte remarked after the game
"The principles are to try to maintain always very short and narrow (when we don't have the ball ).To try to do so,obviously dependent on the situation, like if we lose the ball to try to win the ball back very quickly to maintain a good balance and i think this principle is very good.
We have the width and these are the principles of my idea of football. If we play with three or four center-backs we have to bring these principles.
While it took only a week of training to produce such assured performance against the Tigers, the blues will surely get better when they have imbibed Conte's idea of football as the season progresses. The greatest tests however lies in consecutive home games against reigning champions Leicester City and Mou's Manchester United.
At This Point,The Blues Can Only Get Better!
