Chelsea Receive Permission To Expand Stamford Bridge
The blues home ground had been subject to a proposed expansion plan for more than a year as the club submitted a request to local council Hammersmith and Fulham.
The project is estimated to cost £500m and also expected to be completed ahead of the 2021/22 season. The blues will have to move to a temporary home ahead of the 2018/19 season.
The council on Wednesday night granted the club's request meaning that work can commence on the expansion project if the blues can secure other necessary permission although the most recent achievement is one of the most important.
The blues current ground has a capacity of 41,631 but could well exceed 60,000 seats after the proposed expansion. The project will also include some improvement on the facilities around Stamford Bridge.
